[TEL AVIV] Beaching in the City

As I get older, I start grouping cities I visit into two categories: 1) Sightseeing; and 2) Chilling. Since this Israel trip’s itinerary is packed with religious and cultural excursions, Tel Aviv fell under category 2 by default. I booked one of the hotels across the main avenue facing the city’s Mediterranean coastline. In effect, every glance out the window is tantamount to sightseeing, what with the beach right there in front of you. That’s just Tel Aviv for you, you don’t just run out of beaches.

[JERUSALEM] Literal Trip to Jerusalem

If you want to play a literal game of Trip to Jerusalem, you can always open Spotify and then hunt for daytrips to the walled holy city before the song ends. If you end up not booking anything before the music stops, then you lose a seat on the tour bus! Nah, you don’t even have to book a trip to Jerusalem. Just hop on the train that plies the Tel Aviv – Airport – Jerusalem route and you’re good to go. From Tel Aviv, it takes a little under an hour to arrive in Jerusalem. You don’t even need an itinerary. Just find the wall, get in, then get lost inside for the day.

[HAIFA] Work from Mediterranean

Haifa wasn’t really part of the original itinerary because the only place of interest I had in the north was Nazareth. But then again, my flight landed at 4:30 AM at Ben Gurion and I can’t walk around Nazareth with a wheelie in tow, so I thought, why not settle in Haifa after that daytrip and enjoy working along the Mediterranean coastline, right? The plan was to head there first from Tel Aviv to drop my luggage off. And then Ethiopian Airlines left it in Addis Ababa so I went straight to Nazareth with just my backpack anyway.

[NAZARETH] Basilica of the Annunciation

Whenever I see girls and boys -- and kids who identify as LGBTQIA+ -- selling lanterns on the streets of Nazareth. Is that how the lyrics go? Our eardrums are bombarded with this song as soon as the clock strikes midnight on September 1st. And yet I forget the lyrics. You just never know anymore nowadays. Anyway, Bethlehem and Nazareth, two real world places that populate every other Christmas carol you’ve ever heard of. Or perhaps you remember these best from your religion classes if you went to a Catholic high school. Well yes, they are real places and you can visit them. For now, let’s focus on Nazareth.
