Secret Invasion - Episode 2

2. Promises
1997. Talos and his Skrulls come back to Earth after failing to find a home, holding on to a promise made by Fury that he and Carol Danvers will search for one for them somewhere in the galaxy. At present, Maria Hill’s body is airlifted back to America while Fury is whisked away to safety by a disguised Talos. Talos admits he sent a code to a million of his kind to seek refuge on Earth and they are all here now, many of them securing various positions of power like NATO secretary general and UK prime minister. Gravik holds a meeting among them and stages a coup, being voted as Skrull General. The American caught with Fury and Hill at Red Square turns out to be a Skrull who is later tortured by Falsworth. G’iah finds out that Gravik and his team are in the midst of inventing a machine that will make them stronger, stumbling upon computer files that contain intel on Groot and Cull Obsidian, among others. After almost being apprehended by James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), Fury escapes and goes back home to his wife, a Skrull named Varra (Charlayne Woodard).

Secret Invasion - Episode 1

1. Resurrection
Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) kills a CIA agent and is pursued by Talos (Ben Mendelsohn). Fatally shot, he is revealed to be a Skrull, giving Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) a hint of a bigger Skrull infiltration happening on Earth. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is beamed down from his space station at her behest and is almost immediately abducted by Sonya Falsworth (Olivia Colman), his ex-ally who still works for the MI6 and is under the impression that her old friend is not fit to deal with the covert Skrull operation. Meanwhile, Talos comes face to face with his daughter G’iah (Emilia Clarke) a long time after the death of his wife, her mother. She now works with the Skrull rebellion under the leadership of Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), helping them in their ploy to provoke a world war between Russia and the United States by kidnapping high-ranking officials, keeping them captive, and basically stealing their identities and memories. Hill is shot dead by Gravik pretending to be Fury as bombs are detonated at Moscow’s Red Square.

No Hard Feelings

♣♣♣♣/♣♣♣♣♣

Montauk-local Maddie Barker (Jennifer Lawrence) is about to lose her source of income as an Uber driver after her car is towed due to her unpaid property taxes. While she also bartends as a side hustle, what she really needs is a vehicle that she can use to pay off her dues. When she stumbles upon a Craigslist ad from helicopter parents Laird (Matthew Broderick) and Allison (Laura Benanti) who are offering an old Buick in exchange for “getting their son out of his shell” prior to going to college, she jumps at the opportunity despite its strange premise. Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman) is an awkward and shy geek who keeps to himself and volunteers at the local dog shelter during his free time. Getting to know each other, the line between the transactional and the platonic begins to blur. Will both of them keep their end of the bargain?

The Flash

♣♣♣♣/♣♣♣♣♣

A bit disappointed about his current role in the Justice League and the state of his father’s trial, Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) is prompted by childhood memories to experiment with the Speed Force, an extension of his super speed ability that allows him to travel through time, which he willingly experiments with. He ends up right before his mother’s murder and meets his 18-year-old self who is yet to get his powers. He also discovers that he didn’t just land in an alternative timeline, but rather in another strand of the multiverse as well, given how this world’s Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton) in no way resembles the Batman that he knows. He also finds out later on that Kal-El never made it to Earth alive to become Superman in this world, but was rather replaced by his cousin Kara Zor-El (Sasha Calle) who is being held captive. Would Barry choose to do what’s right and go back to his own timeline or would he opt to totally rewrite his reality for his mother's life?

[DOHA] A Walk Along the Corniche

I already transited in Qatar once, around half a decade ago, and I remember taking my chances with the government sponsored tours which you can join if you fulfill a certain number of hours on transit. Competition was stiff, though, so I never made it out of the airport. The difference this time around is that Qatar just launched their new Hayya Card which means dmost nationalities can now be granted an eTA if they hold valid visas from the US, UK, Canada, and Schengen. In my case, I used my Canadian visa.
