Thou Shall Not Wear Foundation on a Job Interview

Abril 22– 28
Thou Shall Not Wear Foundation on a Job Interview

Soundtrack of the Week
  1. We’re All in This Together [HSM OST]
  2. You’re Still You [GROBAN]
  3. Imprescindible [BEYONCé]
  4. Perhaps Love [GOONG OST]
  5. My Humps [ALANIS]
Movie of the Week: Pan’s Labyrinth
  • Young girl seeks refuge in her own make-believe world in Franco’s fascist Spain. Like Jessica Zafra says in her blog, fascism has no weapons against the imagination. Very well said.
  • You have to see this film. IMHO this is the best film Mexico has ever produced. Guillermo del Toro, the director of this film, was also the director of Hellboy and its sequel. Magaling siya sa mga fantasy films.
  • EL CAPITAN is EVIL.
  • Del Toro knows how to fuse reality with fantasy and he does it well. In this film the distinction between the two is blurred, the viewer is left to think and believe what s/he wants to believe is real.
  • The fantasy scenes are... fantasy but when you finally realize what they symbolize you will begin to believe that the fantasy scenes are even more real than the real scenes themselves.
  • If Abigail Breslin can have an Oscar nomination for Little Miss Sunshine, I don’t understand why Ivana Baquero wasn’t even nominated, ang galing umarte nung bata. O kaya kung hindi siya, at least si Maribel Verdú man lang, she’s so brilliant in this film you will eventually forget that she was once the sexmate of Gael and Diego in Y Tu Mama Tambien.
  • The story will move you and the cast is very effective. The effects are ok naman, kapani paniwala.
  • Ito lang ata ang film na napanood ko na hindi lang for fun ang special effects (Well sabi nila may social relevance daw ang LOTR but for me it’s just another fantasy movie set in another world) Ito kasi maire relate mo dun sa story set in the real world yung story set in the fantasy world.
Selected excerpts lang for every applicant, can’t recall everything. Italics are comments...

Contestant Number One: Female, late 20’s, married
Q: You have a daughter, how is she like? A: My seven year old daughter speaks English as well because we practice speaking English at home... Hire the daughter as well!

VERDICT: Passed. Fluent in English, hisband is working in the company.

Contestant Number Two: Female, early 20’s, single
Q: If asked to pick a day, what will you choose? A: Sunday. Q: Why Sunday, what do you do on Sundays? A: On Sunday I will go to province in Batangas because mother and I sell fish in market. Her English accent is weird and her grammar is weirder Q: I think you misunderstood my question. I’m interested in what you habitually do on Sundays, your hobbies? A: My cousins and I go to mall because my cousins are kids and we play on the floor. Okay... naglulupasay sila sa floor?

VERDICT: Failed. Makes me wonder, if the government will just invest in a better high school English curriculum for the provinces then they could be the main supplier of human resources in call centers, which in turn would be relocated there. That way, degree holders would in a way be persuaded to find a job in their real fields or if they still want call centers, they will be forced to go to the provinces, less humans in Metro Manila! Yahoo...

Contestant Number Four: Male, early 20’s, single
Q: How are you feeling today? A: I feel a little bit dizzy. Q: Why? A: I don’t know. Q: Would you like some candy? A: No, I’m okay. Q: Pick a color. A: My favorite color is green but I will pick black. Q: Why black? A: Because black is the color of formality. Q: Why is black the color of formality? Leche caught offguard! A: Uhm... I don’t know, because black is formal. Duh, begging the question... Black is the color of boredom, and I am a boring person. Q: Are you bored? A: I am bored and boring. Q: Maybe you need someone by your side so your life won’t be boring. Shet, is this a weekday edition of The Buzz? A: Haha! Q: Are you happy? Dr. Phil? Oprah? A: Well that depends on how you define happiness, right now I have no urgent desire whatsoever to be happy.

VERDICT: Passed. A little conceited but American accent plausible.

Contestant Number Seven: Admitted Bi Male, early 20’s, unknown
Q: How long will you stay in the company? A: I will stay long because of emotional reasons, there are a lot of bisexuals in this company and I think I will like it here.

VERDICT: Passed. Lucky, actually admitted that transfer is due to incurring a lot of tardiness in former company, not a very good sales pitch.

Contestant Number Nine: Allegedly Male, early 20’s, in a relationship
Q: Are you wearing foundation? A: Yes. Q: Are you straight or bi? Okay, this initial interview is getting weirder by the minute A: I’m not gay, I have a girlfriend. Q: Are you sure? A: Yes. Q: Ok, maybe my gaydar is just not working properly today. What do you like most about your girlfriend? A: I like that she loves me even if I look gay. Touching, you should have cried, baka naawa sa yo.

VERDICT: Failed. Kawawa ito, pinagtawanan siya ng ibang applicants.

Mahaba pa dapat, wala nang space e. Isang linggo na naman ang natapos! =p

Dukutan Niyo Ako

Abril 15– 21
Dukutan Niyo Ako

Soundtrack of the Week
  1. What I’ve Been Looking For [HSM OST]
  2. Breaking Free [HSM OST]
  3. My Humps [ALANIS]
  4. Perhaps Love [GOONG OST]
  5. Stick to the Status Quo [HSM OST]
Movie of the Week: Unfaithful
  • Boring suburban family life + an affair
  • Another one of those thrillers na walang serial killers (may killer pero hindi serial...) at multu multuhan. It has that “Notes on a Scandal” feel.
  • Ang galing ni Diane Lane dito, now I know why she got nominated for an Oscar. Her performance in the train scene was awesome, naipakita niya through her facial expressions yung inner struggle ng character niya. Ang galing galing, you really see her character being torn apart.
  • Weird lang but that snowglobe scene between Richard Gere and Olivier Martinez reminded me of the nurse in Silent Hill 1, hehehe, horror.
I just find the technique quite unique to movies of this genre, juxtaposing two different scenes. You know the director is trying to tell you something and you get the message.
May closure kumbaga.
  • Love this movie because it shows how a simple decision such as choosing to ride a cab or not could prevent a series of very complicated events.
I therefore conclude na kinuha ng mama yung 3,000. Quits.

PBB Season 2: Could somebody please enter the PBB house and kick Wendy’s insecure ass out of there? Pati foreigner harap harapang pinagmamalditahan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuVCPZh8d_U&NR=1 (Take note of 00:47) siyempre hindi yan pinakita sa primetime nung Sunday dahil medyo favorite lang nitong ABS si Wendy at santa pa ang portrayal sa kanya. Primetime = Wendy, Uplate = Wendy, pati ba naman Pag Alis ni Bruce = Wendy?! I actually admired Rachel McAdams in Mean Girls. She was playing a role and she did it well. The problem is that Wendy is NOT playing a role. What you see is her real self (at least sa Youtube clips, sa TV kasi ine edit e), shiny plastic. Pag aartistahin niyo ba to?

Tsk tsk tsk.

Na tempt tuloy ako mag full time. How could I rob my father of the bragging rights na napagtapos niya ang anak niya ng kolehiyo, di ba? So, part time until graduation <-- Final verdict.

Panoorin ang English version tapos yung foreign language version the next day. May idea na kayo sa conversation kaya maiintindihan niyo yung foreign language audio. For Spanish/Portuguese try High School Musical and Unfaithful. IMHO, very effective. =)

It’s Raining 2.0’s!

Abril 8– 14
It’s Raining 2.0’s!

Soundtrack of the Week
  1. Over It [MCPHEE]
  2. Perhaps Love [GOONG OST]
  3. My Humps [ALANIS]
  4. Kembot [AMBER]
  5. Sexyback [TIMBERLAKE]
Movie of the Week: High School Musical
  • Basketball team captain and transferee audition for the lead roles in a high school musical getting different reactions from friends and cliques...
  • Well what do you expect, it’s a TV Movie.
I’d rather stick pins in my eyes tiyaka yung She loves pi. Tawa rin ako ng tawa dun sa pahabol sa huli na This cookies are genius! Ang babaw ko...
  • As a musical, not that impressive for me but as yet another American teen movie with a high school setting, ok siya.
Yes I know how to read them pero kapag pinagsama sama mo na sila natataranta ako. And when I finally master the script and kasunod naman is: What the hell does this mean?! Nung pakinggan ko yung CD dun ko lang na realize, if Japanese is the Spanish of the east (5 vowels only, crispylicious pronunciation) then Korean is definitely the French of the East (vowel sounds present in both, nasals, liaisons). Gusto ko matuto ng Korean and fast! But how will I do it? Dilemma...

IN short pasado ako! Bwahahaha... This is a double-edged sword. For the next semester I could either: A. Underperform again since this sem proved that underperforming can still get me a GWA that is really not that low; OR B. Redeem myself and be back with a vengeance, lol. Abangan ang susunod na kabanata. Ironic that I got the lowest grade for the subject that I liked the most. Gaya nga ng favorite line ni Sir Morada: “Irony of ironies.” This is my worst sem in terms of academic performance pero pinaka enjoy kasi nahanap ko na ang mga ka blockmates ko na 2004 ang mga class number (shet ang tanda ko na). Enjoy silang kasama... =)

Hindi na kami 24 hours, the shifts should fall between 6PM and 11AM. Di ko alam kung magsasara ba. Kung mawawalan man ako ng trabaho ok lang naman, it’s not as if I need it (sustentado ako ng mga magulang ko) but let’s face it, who does not want BIGGER savings?

The Evil Term Papers Have Died, Time to Pray!

Abril 1– 7
The Evil Term Papers Have Died, Time to Pray!

Soundtrack of the Week
  1. Kembot [AMBER] <-- Last SONG and DANCE syndrome!!!
  2. Sexyback [TIMBERLAKE]
  3. Imprescindible [BEYONCé]
  4. Ang Cute ng Ina Mo [MAKISIG]
  5. Move [JHUD/BEYONCé/ANIKA]
Movie of the Week: Ang Cute ng Ina Mo
  • Daughter feeling she was abandoned by her mom comes back to the Philippines to ruin the chances of her parents coming back together.
  • Ok yung movie. If you are going to watch it and compare it with Ang Tanging Ina, you will not enjoy the film kasi obvious naman na hindi na mapapantayan ni Ai Ai or ng Star Cinema ang success ng movie na yun in terms of Box Office returns and famous Filipino movies spoofs. So kung panonoorin mo yung movie, judge it based on its own merits, not vis-a-vis Ang Tanging Ina.
Favorite ko yung QUIAPO = Quiet U, I Am Pissed Off!
Though he didn’t get his mom’s acting abilities, nakuha naman niya ang pagka komedyante ng tatay niya, that is if you find Edu funny, I honestly think he is, hehehe.
  • Marami ring pop culture references, aliw yung references dun sa Maging Sino Ka Man at Super Inggo.
  • Worth watching naman, not waste of money for me.
Dahil ba lumaki tayo learning Engligh with Filipino? Develop Aussie Accent <-- idagdag sa TO-DO LIST, hehehe.

Wahahaha! Last term paper na kasi for Stat. Nag typist din ako for the term paper, lol. This is the worst sem of my life in terms of academic performance, lol.

Starbucks: Bago manood ng Ang Cute ng Ina Mo, nag Starbucks ako (first time).

Hindi naman atheist pero cool off muna kami ni Lord, better off that way for today...

Future: I’ve decided to really have that second degree. Hello Economics, bwahahaha.

What if I take dance lessons? Yung tipong breakdance (bwahahaha, imagine!!! Bwahahaha) o kaya social dance? I wish I knew how to dance...

Ang Bilis Tumakbo ng Panahon, Hindi Ko Mahabol

Março 25– 31

Ang Bilis Tumakbo ng Panahon, Hindi Ko Mahabol

Soundtrack of the Week
  1. The Sweet Escape [STEFANI]
  2. Imprescindible [BEYONCé]
  3. Move [JHUD/BEYONCé/ANIKA]
  4. Helena [MCR]
  5. Love You, I Do [JHUD]
Movie of the Week: Happily N’Ever After
  • Wizard in charge of Fairy Tale land goes on vacation, leaving the fate of Fairy Tale Land to two irritating talking creatures who were no match for Cinderella’s evil stepmother Frida, who in turn took over and wreaked havoc in the land.
  • From the creators of Shrek.
Ella’s (CindELLA) fairy godmother was ok. Ang kulit nung “I have come to grant tour wih of being a real boy!” tiyaka “You look beautiful SALMONELLA...”
On Being Mentally Retarded: Mentally retarded ako. Oh well, if you would like to know what I mean, come to my place with an Animal Planet crew for you to witness the peak of mental retardation. When I turned 18 and started writing a daily journal nag set na ako ng deadlines to grow up. 2003 pa yun. Nung una, sige grow up by Christmas. Reset, sige 21. Hanggang ngayon ito, retarded pa rin. Final reset: September 26, 2007 upon reaching double dos, I should grow up or else I would stay a retard forever. O baka naman nilalabanan ko lang, maybe I am destined to be a retard forever? Oh grow up!

I survived! I am so happy!!! I am free! I am free from this hell semester na ginawa kong hell para sa sarili ko. I don’t want anything but OUT and I am almpst out! The hell, I am out, I am free!

Reminiscing: Ang bilis talaga ng panahon. I had a visit to my hometown on Friday for a cousin’s birthday, another cousin’s engagement party. Siyempre kapag bumalik ka sa isang lugar na matagal mo nang hindi binabalikan e babahain ka talaga ng memories, in this case not just memories but events happening in real time which will leave you reflecting on the state of your own life. A cousin already has a child. A cousin is getting married. A cousin is graduating from college. Yet another cousin is graduating from college next year (kasabay ako hopefully) and yet another one the year after that. The second youngest cousin is going to Ateneo this coming sem! It hit me all in an instant. Next year more or less magkaroon siya ng isa pa, then isa pa the year after that. Ang saya! Ang hindi lang masaya dito is that I can’t accept the fact that we are not kids anymore. Shet matanda na kami! The problem is ayaw kong tumanda. Physically I am 21 pero mentally 15 lang ata ako. I told you I’m retarded, just reaffirming. I think I need to grow up. Drama mode. The one who got engaged is already leaving for the US... Cousins forever! Huhuhu. A toast to the future!

Welcome to the Philippines! Bahala kayo.

Walang Tulugan Certificate: I, Kuya Germs, would like to confer this Walang Tulugan certificate level 1 to Mr. Dan Alfred de Jesus for being awake from 7 AM Friday (March 30, 2007) to 7 AM Saturday (March 31, 2007) straight. Awarding of level 2 certificate will be done upon completion of 48 hours without sleep. Congratulations! Mabuhay ang mga tropang gising! Mabuhay ang mga zombie!
