Moon Knight: Episode 6

6. Gods and Monsters
Harrow retrieves Ammit’s ushabti from Marc’s corpse and frees the goddess. Layla pursues them on her own and gets an offer from Taweret to become her avatar. She sneaks into the pyramid and frees Khonshu while Ammit (Saba Mubarak), with Harrow as her new avatar, strikes the Ennead one by one. Despite a stark warning from Taweret, Marc abandons the Field of Reeds and comes back for Steven. The two are freed by an enchanted glow and cross the gates of Osiris back to their body just in time to rendezvous with Layla, now Taweret’s superpowered avatar, and team up against Harrow/Ammit. After almost losing, the duo imprison Ammit in Harrow’s body. Marc/Steven refuse to kill him/her and demand liberty from Khonshu, which he seemingly grants them. As the two live in the illusion of harmonious co-existence, they black out. Harrow is dragged out of the asylum and shoved into a limousine where Khonshu awaits. The god then introduces him to his friend Jake Lockley (Oscar Isaac), who immediately guns him down.

Sorry, Marvel, but I won’t be the only one demanding an explanation as to why you tagged this episode as the SERIES finale, when there are so much more to explore; a lot of questions left unanswered. So, are you telling us that after introducing a new superhero along with a third personality you will then just leave the story hanging there for good? Do you want me to go Ammit on you? Seriously, though, this storyline is not finished. What are your plans for Moon Knight? Because we defo want more. Oh well. Perhaps that is just the best way to end a show’s run. On top. Leave them audience begging for more, huh? Anyway, it has been fun seeing Layla finally don a costume and kick ass as a superhero. It has always been a matter of when, not if. I guess we just all got gaslit into believing that it would be Khonshu. Now we’re just going to have to wait for Marc/Steven/Jake’s next Disney+ and/or big screen appearance as well as the implications of this whole new Gods/Avatar plot device on the MCU as a whole.

“Marc Spector truly believed that after he and I parted ways, I wanted his wife to be my Avatar. Why would I ever need anybody else when he has no idea how troubled he truly is? Meet my friend, Jake Lockley.” –Khonshu
