Loki: Episode 8

8. Breaking Brad
Ouroboros attempts to fix the Temporal Loom but needs the aura of either He Who Remains, who is dead, or Miss Minutes to override the system. Otherwise, a temporal meltdown would eventually lead to the agency’s demise. TVA Agent X-5 (Rafael Casal) returns to his life in the sacred timeline as popular actor Brad Wolfe but is taken back to the TVA by Mobius and Loki to be questioned. After a bit of torture, he admits to finding Sylvie and reluctantly brings Mobius and Loki to the 1982 branched timeline where Sylvie is working at a McDonald’s in Oklahoma. After witnessing a rather uneasy Brad, Sylvie enchants him and sees firsthand that Dox’s real plan is to prune the branched timelines with reset charges. They head back to the TVA but are too late as the pruning has already begun. Mobius, Loki, and Sylvie manage to apprehend Dox but some of her loyalists escape. Meanwhile, Casey (Eugene Cordero), the TVA receptionist and fan of Ouroboros, finally gets to track Ravonna Renslayer’s TemPad in one of the branched timelines.

At least now it is starting to make sense. I am also wondering what Mobius’ life might be in the sacred timeline. Could he be a superhero too? I doubt it, but are they going to show us? Are we ever going to see him finally ride a jet ski? For now, Brad seems to be an interesting new addition to the cast and perhaps a good case study on one of many possible reactions after finding out that your whole life has been a lie so far. Somehow it gives the TVA agents a semblance of humanity instead of being mere foot soldiers. Now that Renslayer has been tracked, we will be getting more answers more or less. I still find some of the aspects confusing or maybe I am just confusing branched timelines and multiverses? From what I remember, they are just pruning branched timelines like that of Loki in Endgame getting hold of the tesseract. Are other multiverses considered branched timelines? Anyway, it is good to see Sylvie back in action. We have seen how she can be quite impulsive and I’d love to see what further chaos she’ll be bringing to the table.

“Stop trying to be a hero, man. You're a villain. You're good at it. Do that.” –Brad Wolfe
