Year 28

With another year passing I once again find myself dealing with the fact that my age would soon be out of the calendar, as if it would serve as the trigger for something major, the likes of a zombie apocalypse or so, but before delving into that, perhaps a review of Year 28 would help? What the heck have I been doing before I ended up here in Seoul? Well, China.

How to Get Away with Murder (ABC): Episode 1

1. Pilot
Four undergrads toss a coin to decide whether they should get rid of the body or leave it as it is. Flashback to three months earlier, Wes Gibbons (Alfred Enoch) is late for his first day of law school and gets grilled by ruthless law professor Annalise Keating (Viola Davis). In the midst of a controversial murder trial, she aims to recruit four of her best students for assistance, a plum position that will have a great impact on their future careers. Michaela Pratt (Aja Naomi King) scores a slot by discrediting a witness through the use of social media, while Connor Walsh (Jack Falahee) manages to get his hands on illegal evidence through casual sex. Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza) completes the group, but has to deal with the fact that the world of criminal law will not always side with innocence. Hesitant but left without a choice, they decide to clean the bloodstained murder weapon and incinerate the corpse to destroy the DNA, revealing in the end that the victim is no other than Sam Keating (Tom Verica), their professor’s husband.

The Gifted

♣♣♣/♣♣♣♣♣

Two girls gifted with exceptionally high IQ form an unlikely friendship stemming from necessity. Zoe Tuazon (Anne Curtis) is vengeful and obese, while Aica Tabayoyong (Cristine Reyes) is a romantic with a face deemed unattractive based on the conventional standards of beauty. The two eventually form an alliance to get back at those who constantly bully them. This bond is broken by the arrival of Mark Ferrer (Sam Milby), a looker from the province whose English is just as bad as his grades. Zoe puts ambition first and hatches a plan to use him as a distraction for Aica, so she could emerge as the clear frontrunner as valedictorian of their batch, causing the two to end their friendship. Years and several liposuction sessions later, Zoe comes back as a Cambridge educated model, while Aica undergoes surgery and becomes popular herself through her street tutoring advocacy. The three meet again, and it seems as though the lack of closure from a decade ago would trigger a similar flow of events, as though high school just happened yesterday.
