SHENZHEN: Grand Theater Hostel

I believe this one had a good rating at Hostelworld, and so I booked it. My decision was based on the picture of the double bunk beds that they had. Later on I will find out that the best aspect of this hostel is its location, right at the center of the central business district! That chic mall called Mix C is just on the other side of the street. Book City is just a few steps away. The price, if based on the location alone, is well worth it just RMB75 a night. That is not even 500 pesos! Looking out my window now, I also have a good view of the city’s skyscrapers. The hostel is located on the 28th floor of a high rise building at the back of a bank, walking distance from the Grand Theater station of the Shenzhen Metro.

The downside, I think, would have to do something with the upkeep. The bathroom, in particular, is not that tidy. Spacious, it is, but not so tidy, not to mention that there is only one bathroom to be shared by three rooms occupied by four people each. Waiting for your turn would really test your patience, unless you do your bathroom activities during the “non-peak” hours. The room itself is not that bad. It is a good thing that it is not too cramped. The locker, however, would be better if bigger, and with actual locking mechanism. A locker that cannot be locked just defies logic, now does it not? No more complaints aside from that. The guests are a social bunch, as proven by the frequent chatter heard coming from the living room. You will not be getting any keys, by the way. The front door is always open. The room doors are never locked. Security issues? You are inside a heavily guarded high-rise building. That is a non-issue.
