Let us tackle the negative aspects first. I guess I expected too much because of the perfect 100% score on Hostelworld. I had been knocking for, like, 20 minutes and alternating it with the doorbell but it really took a while for someone to answer the door. The solution would have been easy: call them, except that I am a tourist without a Chinese sim card. In the end, I still got in after half an hour or so. I did inform them via my Hostelworld booking that I was arriving at 8 AM. In any case, I still want to thank them because they accepted me that early. I think, for hostels, the normal check-in time is after 12 PM.
The
location is good. It is a bit far from the nearest MRT station, but the walk is
manageable. There would be less walking if you take the bus instead. There are
detailed instructions on how to get here if you book from Hostelworld. The
house is not that recognizable at first, but once you see the colorful steps
leading to the second story, you would know that you have arrived. The entrance
on the same level as the street has an electronic lock, the code for which you
would be given because according to one of the hosts, the main door on the
second floor where the bar is, and serves as the main entrance, is locked after
8 PM.

The
room is okay, just what should be expected from dorm-type accommodations. One
complaint would be the electric sockets for the upper bunk bed, which are
blocked by the bed frame. The bathroom is fine, although the toilets are rather
small. Hot water in the shower: check. The bar area is where most of the guests
loiter given the many seats and tables. I never saw someone order something
from the bar during my stay. Overall, an okay experience, but definitely not a
100% for me. I would still recommend it, though, because the staff are very
helpful and the location is strategic, just a few cartwheels away from a
shopping street with a wide variety of street food on offer.
