SHENYANG: 01 - Shenyang Sanpi Youth Hostel

Now, this one was pretty hard to find, which I think was strange because the road where it is located is quite crowded, and with a Tesco at the corner how could taxi drivers really not have an idea where it is? Anyway, finding it is probably the only complaint I have for this hostel, along with the creepy building foyer where the elevator is. Just this tip, if coming from the train station and seeing Tesco to your right, keep your gaze to the right. This guest house is on the first bus stop after Tesco on the same building as a brightly lit KTV. Be on the lookout for signs. In the evening, they have a red marquee flashing the name of the guest house. In the morning, they just have a signage of Youth Hostelling International. Do ring the bell before you enter the building. Again, the entrance is to the left of the left of the KTV, with writings in chalk spelling the name of the guest house. The unit number is there. Ringing the door bell is necessary because the elevator does not function unless you have a key, which is similar to a poker chip.

Located on the fifth story, the guest house has two floors. Downstairs is a cozy lounge with a large wall serving as a big projector for the TV. There are two private rooms downstairs and a common bathroom. The second floor also has private rooms, I think around three of them; two common bathrooms, and three dorms with nothing but curtains separating them. There might be some noise in the evening. Most of the tourists here are also from China. I never did meet any guest who was not Chinese when I stayed here. Socializing might be a problem if you do not speak Mandarin.
