BANG RAK: 01 - Lub D Silom

Lub d has two branches in Bangkok: one in Silom and the other near Siam Square. If you want to be close to the shopping area, go to the one at Siam Square. As for me, I ended up at the Silom branch. Although the map that they give you would show two Metro stations nearby, they are actually around five to ten minutes away on foot, if you are a brisk walker. If you have the courage, though, then you could always take the bus. The nearest Metro station to the Silom branch is Chong Nonsi. Why do I love Lub D? Let us count the ways.

The lounge and bar area are big enough combined and perfect for almost everything from catching up on work on your laptop, or initiating a conversation with a fellow backpacker slash potential friend. They have ready to order food and drinks. There are six desktops free to use for guests. It also helps that the staff members are friendly and always ready to help. Once you get your key card, you are all set to find your dorm, or surf the net via their Wi-Fi which reaches the rooms.

Eight people could fit in the mixed dorm rooms which have four double bunk beds each. The bathrooms are shared but clean and well-maintained. There is a theatre room which serves as another alternative for hanging out. You need 10 baht, I think, to operate the washing machines in the laundry room. A detergent box costs another 10 at the reception. If dorm type accommodation is not your thing, they also have twin and double rooms, but are located from the third floor up. Caveat? No elevator.

Thank you for writing about Lub d! Appreciate it.

As for laundry charges, it's 20 baht per washing load and 40 baht per dryer load.

Hope to welcome you again soon. :)
