BORACAY: 01 - Nomad Backpackers Inn

As the ads on the Internet and the barker at the port would probably tell you, one simply does not get any accommodation priced lower than a thousand bucks near Station 2. And then I saw this while hanging on the back of a tricycle scouting for accommodations. The banner is large enough for you to get a good glimpse of the overnight prices: USD8 - off peak; USD10 - peak; USD12 - super peak. And so I made up my mind to check it out after purchasing my sea walk package at White Blue where a room, just a few steps away from the beach, was also up for grabs for PhP800. I chose the backpacker’s dorm. Why? Well it was definitely an issue of price. I paid less than PhP700 for two nights here, and it is also just within walking distance from White Beach through D' Mall. Not bad.

What is the real deal? You get a bunk on one of more than ten double bunk beds spread across two room wings: the first one of which flows directly to the foyer where there are also two double deck beds behind a cabinet of souvenirs and a desk; and the other separated from the first wing by a door. The only shower and toilet inside is in the second wing. There are three additional shower/toilets outside. The inn occupies the whole second floor under which are three different establishments next to Paddles Up Café where you can loiter for free Internet because the rooms are not yet Wi-Fi enabled. This issue should be fixed by the management fast because Internet nowadays is really a necessity.

Another suggestion would be LOCKERS. They are really necessary in a dorm-type accommodation setting where people come and go as they please and with nothing preventing another klepto guest from pocketing your laptop (such big pockets those pants have!). This is why I had to resort to bringing my laptop with me everywhere I went. Yes, even during the cliff dive and the sea walk! Another alternative is to leave it at the café. Anyway, I love this inn because of the location. Come on, less than 400 bucks at Station 2? Not bad at all. It is a real steal considering the location! I bet a lot of improvements based on feedback would follow given that the place is fairly new.
