Pure Love: Episode 5

49일: 제5회
Ji Hyeon in Yi Kyeong’s body pretends to be her own friend, and uses some knowledge that only she knows to make her mother believe. It is because of this that she gets the seal in time, gets out of the house before In Jeong comes, and buries the seal in one of the potted plants in Kang’s restaurant. Kang, on the other hand, believes that Yo Kyeong is dying after seeing her at the hospital, which leads him to be more tolerant of her behavior. Minho relies on his dramatic skills to trick Ji Hyeon’s father into letting him manage their company despite his non-marriage to their comatose daughter. It seems as though Ji Hyeon’s victory over the seal is in vain, because now they are planning to declare her as legally incompetent to carry on with their plans. Ji Hyeon keeps on taunting Minho and he gets suspicious and confronts her, asking why she always gives him that look of despise. Sad because her wedding is supposed to happen today, Ji Hyeon is treated by the Scheduler to a shopping spree to cheer her up. In other news, it is revealed that Yi Kyeong has been carrying on with such a gloomy existence for five years now, as revealed by her psychiatrist, and as witnessed by Ji Hyeon.

Pure Love: Episode 4

49일: 제4회
Ji Hyeon narrowly escapes Minho and she ends up having a bad fall from her room’s veranda. All these oddities almost gets her fired, but she manages to convince Kang to keep her as a waitress in his restaurant anyway. More secrets are revealed as Minho and In Jeong recall what brought them together. It appears that the chance encounter between Minho and Ji Hyeon, which launched their love story, was actually pre-planned and is part of a bigger con. For now, it appears that whatever motivation the two have is fueled by vengeance towards Ji Hyeon’s family. The elusive seal is not found by anyone until both Ji Hyeon and In Jeong realize that it is in one of her stuffed toys, and so a race to get that stuffed kangaroo is witnessed towards the end of the episode. Another glimpse of the mechanics involved in crossing over is also shown, as a woman who dies in a swimming pool accident is forcefully carried by two hooded supernatural beings to the elevator. It looks like there is no escaping death, after all.

49일: 제3회
Minho (배수빈) and In Jeong (서지혜) have been cheating on Ji Hyeon all along, and they are planning something bad regarding her family and their business too. Ji Hyeon suddenly realizes how hard it is to find three pure teardrops amidst all this deception she has been totally unaware of until now. Yi Kyeong starts to notice the little changes brought about by Ji Hyeon inhabiting her body, but still behaves the same way she does, not giving a damn. Now more than ever, Ji Hyeon is thankful to Kang for being such a good boss and for being tolerant of her weird behavior while in Yi Kyeong’s body. She loses hope for her quest for a while, but bounces back once the Scheduler threatens to bring her to the elevator. Adding to her mission now is to thwart all the plans of her fiancé and best friend against her family, starting with finding her seal, which the two intend to steal in order for them to get what they want. And so she sneaks into their house, just in time when Minho arrives to look for the same thing.

Pure Love: Episode 2

49일: 제2회
The Scheduler (정일우) lays out three rules for Ji Hyeon: 1) She could only borrow Yi Kyeong’s body when she is asleep; 2) She could not tell anyone that she is Ji Hyeon; and 3) She has to earn her own money. Clueless as to where to find employment, she ends up working for Han Kang (조현재), her high school best friend who is secretly in love with her. However, since she is using Yi Kyeong’s body, the two always get engaged in funny situations brought about by Ji Hyeon’s quirkiness. Meanwhile, the real Yi Kyeong still gets to use her body from midnight onwards because she is working the night shift anyway. For now, she is totally clueless as to what is happening and continues living her life with a very negative outlook. Ji Hyeon originally thought that it would be easy to collect three pure teardrops, namely from her fiancé and two best friends. This enthusiasm is cut short, though, as she finds out that fiancé and best friend number one are having an affair, and that this very revelation actually had a hand in her accident, as memories from the past few days start to come back to her.

Pure Love: Episode 1

49일: 제1회
Shin Ji Hyeon (남규리) is living the perfect life: the only child of a wealthy family; getting married in a month; and blessed with a very reliable best friend. Although a bit clumsy, she is an optimistic ball of sunshine that just could not be suppressed. Song Yi Kyeong (이요원) works the night shift in a convenience store. Lacking any motivation to continue living after her boyfriend’s death, she even dares two knife-wielding thugs to stab her as they try to rob the shop while she is on duty. Deciding to end her life, she jumps in front of speeding truck the next day, but is unexpectedly saved by a good samaritan. The incident, however, results in a huge pile-up with Ji Hyeon as one of the victims. Flying out of her car’s windshield, Ji Hyeon walks it off, but watches in horror as her body is loaded into an ambulance. Confused, she follows a guy who seems to be the only one to acknowledge her presence. He turns out to be a Scheduler, a modern-day grim reaper who leads souls to the afterlife. He then explains that it is not yet her time to die, and that she has two options: a) just give up right there and then and die; or b) fight for her life by collecting three pure tears from people who truly love her, blood relatives excluded, within 49 days. Deeming the challenge easy, she chooses the second option. Since her body is in a coma, she is to borrow Yi Kyeong’s and live the girl’s life in an attempt to successfully complete her task.

Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak!

♣♣♣/♣♣♣♣♣

As a form of punishment, mischievous angel Angelito (Zaijian Jaranilla) is sent down to Earth on a mission: to help quack doctor Angelo (Vic Sotto) recover his faith in God. As he lands on Earth he gets caught up in an on-going feud between Angelo and Cielo (Bea Alonzo), an antagonistic doctor who later becomes the love interest.

Vic Sotto was THE comedian for me, as a kid. His movies were all funny. Two decades later I just cannot fathom what made me think of him that way. In fact, I find Joey de Leon’s brand of humor funnier nowadays. It is the same case in this movie, he just ceased to be funny, and I do not know why. Going back to being a kid is, perhaps, where the answer lies. He has this unique charisma that somehow targets kids. Come to think of it, most of his movies cater to children, except maybe the occasional ones outside the MMFF. His movies always seem to be some sort of a family affair that the whole family could enjoy, regardless if it is corny or not. Somehow he just becomes your dad during those two hours spent inside the cinema.

Game of Thrones (HBO): Season 1/Episode 2

1.2 The Kingsroad
Bran survives the fall, but is now in a coma. Jon Snow bids his half-brother goodbye as he sets out to join the Night’s Watch, an elite force tasked of guarding the Wall. Cersei tries to cover up by extending words of sympathy to Cat, but she’s not convinced, neither should she be, because the Queen ends up sending an assassin to finish her twin brother’s dirty work. It’s a good thing that Bran’s pet wolf comes to the rescue. Ned, on the other hand, joins the King in their journey back to King’s Landing. His royal highness expresses his worry over the news of the union between Daenerys and Khal Drogo, fearing that several of the seven kingdoms would join forces to dethrone him if and when the Targaryens decide to cross the Narrow Sea. He is, however, the least of Daenerys’ problems, as she keeps herself busy learning how to be a good wife to her new husband, who sees her as nothing more than a sex slave. An afternoon of flirting ends badly for crowned prince Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) and Sansa (Sophie Turner) when he decides to bully her younger sister Arya (Maisie Williams) and gets mauled by her pet wolf as a result. As Ned executes one of the Stark wolves in behest of the Queen, Bran wakes up from his coma.

Game of Thrones (HBO): Season 1/Episode 1

1.1 Winter Is Coming
Ruled by the house of Stark, Winterfell is currently under the reign of Eddard, known to many as Ned (Sean Bean). His wife, Cat (Michelle Fairley) serves as a loving mother to his five kids, but obviously not to his bastard son Jon Snow (Kit Harington), who is forever reminded of his illegitimacy. Rumors of the return of zombie-like creatures referred to as White Walkers are overshadowed by news from King’s Landing, the capital of the seven kingdoms. The Hand of the King has died, but a secret message from his widow accuses the Lannisters of his murder. Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) serves as the reigning queen, while her twin brother Jamie (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and younger sibling Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) have agendas of their own. The royals of the capital pay the north a visit to convince Ned of becoming the new Hand. Meanwhile, Viserys Targaryen (Harry Lloyd) plots revenge while in exile, betrothing his sister Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) to barbaric warlord Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa), so as to use his army to seize the Iron Throne of King’s Landing, which once belonged to them. She receives three petrified dragon eggs as a gift. Back in Winterfell, Ned’s son, Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) runs into the Lannister twins getting it on in an abandoned tower. Jamie asks him how old he is, before pushing him off the window.
